Festivals are an integral part of school life in Mol an Óige. We recognise that festivals, from all parts of the world, follow the timing of the seasons and the important truths that lie beneath the wisdom of the natural world. Celebrating festivals binds communities together and also initiates a modern ‘world body or soul’. The world soul is an intervening of the human soul with the universal soul in nature: an experience of the divine as well as the natural world. By celebrating figures in history and mythology such as Christ, Buddha, Michael, Saraswati etc., we develop a deep intercultural understanding and a model for peace, tolerance, love and compassion. Different festivals are celebrated in different ways. Some are done through art in the classroom, others through working in nature. Parents are invited to participate in whole school festivals. Saint Patrick’s Day is when we bring the festival out to the wider community through participation in the parade.
