The Harvest Festival

The Harvest Festival is held at the end of September. Each class contributes towards the harvest table. We come together with parents to enjoy the fruits of the harvest and fortify ourselves for the school year ahead. This is also the time of Michealmas when we explore the courage of Micheal in overcoming the dragon. This prepares us for the challenges that we will face and overcome in the school year ahead.

Festivals in Mol an Óige

Festivals are an integral part of school life in Mol an Óige. We recognise that festivals from all parts of the world, follow the timing of the seasons and the important truths that lay beneath the wisdom of the natural world. Celebrating festivals binds communities together and also initiates a modern ‘world body or soul’. The world soul is an intervening of the human soul with the universal soul in nature: an experience of the divine as well as the natural world. By celebrating figures in history and mythology such as Christ, Buddha, Micheal, Saraswati etc, we develop a mutual understanding between cultures and a model for peace, tolerance, love and compassion. Different festivals are celebrated in different ways. Some are done through art in the classroom, others through working in nature. Parents are invited to participate in whole school festivals. Saint Patrick’s day is when we bring the festival out to the wider community through participation in the parade.
